Homeopathic treatment
Before delving into homeopathic treatment let us first discuss the conventional or allopathic treatment available.
For leukoplakia or leukoplasia the only treatment in the conventional / allopathic
treatment is the surgical removal of the lesion. But even after the surgical removal
there are chances of recurrence of the problem. Also in my experience I have seen that the problem actually increases after the surgical excision.
A chance of developing cancer from leukoplakia also remains the same after the surgical
removal of the lesion.
In contrast small doses of homeopathic medicines not only gradually remove
the lesion but also reduce the risk of developing cancer and recurrence of lesions.
Homeopathic medicines target the altered immunity of the body and bring it back
to normalcy over a period of time. Remedies help in slowing down the progress of
the disease and the development of complications. The treatment helps in improving
the immunity so that the patient does not face frequent relapses.
The treatment also improves mental and physical state of the patient, and alter
the hereditary predisposition to the disease.
The remedies help in resolution of the existing lesions as far as possible and controls the further
spread of the lesions.
Homeopathic medicines being completely safe and free from side-effects, can be taken
by the patients without any worry of experiencing adverse reactions - they are also
non habit forming.
The homeopathy approach is a natural way to help the body by supporting the body's
own process of healing. It involves the use of extremely diluted natural substances
to heal the body through the release of vital energy.
Homeopathy believes that skin disorders are to be treated from within. A well-prescribed
treatment not only takes care of leukoplakia or leukoplasia but also treats as a
whole and improves general health as well.
How homoeopathy helps
- It slowly removes the lesion of leukoplakia as far as possible. The lesions decrease in size slowly
and steadily.
- Remedies help in the proper absorption of various nutrients which are required for
healthy oral cavity by improving the disturbed digestion.
- Medicines prevent the further development of the lesions by treating the problem
from its root.
- The treatment eradicates the chances of lesions developing into cancer and also
controls and treats the initial stages of the cancerous lesions.
There are 9 homeopathy medicines which give great relief. However, the correct choice
and the resulting relief is a matter of experience and right judgment on the part
of the doctor. The treatment is decided after thorough case taking of the patient.
Thus remedies of leukoplakia or leukoplasia are designer made unlike allopathy in
which all patients receive the same surgery or drugs although trade name may be
different.

What is leukoplakia or leukoplasia
Leukoplakia or leukoplasia is a condition characterized by white spots or patches
on mucous membranes, especially of the mouth and vulva.
It is a condition in which thickened, white patches are formed on your gums, on
the inside of your cheeks, the bottom of your mouth and sometimes on your tongue.
These patches can't easily be scraped off.
It can sometimes be serious. Although most patches are benign, a small percentage
show early signs of cancer, and many cancers of the mouth occur next to areas of
leukoplakia.
Leukoplakia is quiet prevalent in elderly with poor immune system and those who
are in habit of taking alcohol, tobacco chewing or tobacco smoking. Age group affected
is usually 50-70 years.
Causes
Leukoplakia or leukoplasia is caused by some sort of mouth irritation; majority
of cases linked to use of:
Any chronic irritant, especially smokeless tobacco, may be a cause for white tongue
or mouth patches.
Active Epstein-Barr virus infection can lead to hairy leukoplakia. Those with HIV
or AIDS are especially vulnerable, and these hairy white patches can be your first
sign of HIV infection.
Signs & symptoms
The most common symptoms of leukoplakia are painless, fuzzy white patches on the
side of the tongue.
The skin lesions tend to have the following characteristics:
- Location of the lesions
- Usually on the tongue
- May be on the inside of the cheeks
- In females, occasionally on the genitals
- Color of the lesions
- Usually white or gray
- May be red (called erythroplakia, a condition that can lead to cancer)
- Texture of the lesions
- Thick
- Slightly raised and hard surface (leathery feel)
Diagnosis
Most often, your dentist diagnoses leukoplakia by examining the patches in your
mouth and ruling out other possible causes for your signs and symptoms. To help
ensure that no early signs of cancer exist, your dentist may remove a tissue sample
(biopsy) for analysis. This can involve either removing the entire lesion (excisional
biopsy), or a portion of the lesion, removing cells from the leukoplakic patches
with a small, spinning brush (oral brush biopsy).
Risk factors
Tobacco use puts you at high risk of oral cancer as well as leukoplakia, and drinking
alcohol together with smoking further increases your risk.
Complications
Leukoplakia or leukoplasia usually doesn't cause permanent damage to tissues in
your mouth. However, oral cancer is a potentially serious complication. Oral cancers
often form in the vicinity of leukoplakia patches, and the patches themselves may
show cancerous changes. Even when patches are removed, the risk of oral cancer is
still elevated.
Hairy leukoplakia, on the other hand, isn't painful and isn't likely to lead to
cancer. But it may indicate the presence of HIV infection or AIDS.
Diet
The patient should avoid taking alcohol and should completely stop chewing tobacco.
A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables may help prevent cancer.
