Homeopathic treatment
Before delving into homeopathic treatment of gangrene let us first enumerate the
options in allopathic or conventional medicine:
- Surgery (amputation)
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- Maggot therapy
- Antibiotics
- Vascular surgery (to restore blood flow)
- Biosurgery
Homeopathy in gangrene is turning out to be a light at the end of the tunnel. Prognosis
is good if the patient is driven in at the right time. The medicines have a deep
action and help in nourishing and revitalizing the fighting action of the arteries
and the skin against the sickness.
The cessation of the circulation, loss of heat and sensation, loss of function and
change in color, usually trawls the patient towards losing a limb. Homeopathy has
the power to save the patient from losing that particular body part.
The pathology which has secured its effect cannot be reversed, instead, can be stopped
and controlled from further deteriorating the part. Early intervention to this problem
can help in avoidance of the spread of the disease.
My clinical experience helps me in stating that homeopathy works wonders in amputated
cases. Recurrence is the norm in amputated cases. The body part which stays behind
after amputation has not yet been unsoiled; this is where homeopathy runs its action.
It avoids the further spread of the infection and stabilizes the situation then
and there eventually making the affected part much better.
Clinically, most of the patients come to me just after amputation has been done
and the wound is not healing and the patient is on high antibiotics and getting
endless dressings done with no effect at all.
In fact the gangrene starts spreading to the part near the amputated area. Intervention
with proper homeopathic treatment at this point shows amazing results. The post-operative
wound heals promptly with growth of healthy tissue and the gangrene stops advancing
bringing a smile on the face of the patient.
The symptoms such as soreness, burning, discomfort are controlled first and then
slowly eradicated in cases of dry gangrene. The discharges, foul smelling exudates,
discoloration of the skin are scrapped off without leaving any sign of recurrence.
For old people, homeopathy is the best option as the medicines are absolutely safe
and easy to administer. They hold the reputation of safest medicines without any
side effects.

What is gangrene
Gangrene is a perilous disease which can turn out to be life threatening in some
cases.
In medical terms, it is defined as the death of the tissues of the body mainly due
to loss of blood supply (due to an underlying disease or injury) to that part of
the body or can be due to immense bacterial infection.
A type of necrosis, a non-communicable disease, it does not spread from one person
to another.
What are the types
Gangrene has been divided into following according to pathology:
- Dry gangrene: End result of chronic ischemia without infection. The affected part
is dry, purplish blue-black in color and shrunken. It may then slowly slough off
the body.
- Wet gangrene: Involves always an infection and affects the tissues which swells
and blisters and is wet because of pus. There is aching pain with swelling, reddish
skin color and ulceration. The progression is rapid within hours and days. The most
common bacterial infection is the clostridium perfringens which can cause myonecrosis
or muscle fiber death. It may develop after frostbite, injury or any kind of burn.
Wet gangrene often leads to shock and death if left untreated.
- Gas gangrene: Presence of gas in the gangrenous tissue is described as gas gangrene
which develops in the muscles or organs. It is a rare form but is dangerous and
is a result of trauma or surgical injury. The appearance of the skin is pale and
grey, slowly evolving to a purplish red color, making a crackling sound when pressed
due to the presence of gas in it.
- Internal gangrene: This type of gangrene affects one or more of your internal organs
such as intestines, gallbladder or appendix. It occurs due to blockage in the organ
causing obstruction in blood supply. Condition most commonly observed in cases of
strangulated hernia.
- Fournier’s gangrene: Discovered in 1883, this is a disease of progressive
gangrene of the perineal, perianal or genital areas. Seen most commonly in men.
There is severe pain in the scrotum or in the penis due to the necrosis of the tissue
caused due to thrombosis of the blood vessels under the skin. It is also seen in
children from infancy to adoloescence.
Site of affection
Usually seen affecting the limbs, specially lower extremities.
What are the causes
The main cause of gangrene is blockage of blood supply to the particular part of
the body leading to cell death. The reasons of blockage are as follows:
- Diabetes
- Atherosclerosis
- Peripheral arterial diseases
- Raynaud’s phenomenon
- Frostbite
- Long-term smoking
- Open bone breaks
- Severe frostbite
- Burns
- Obesity
- Injuries or trauma
- Infection usually due to bacteria Clostridium
- Post-surgical complications
What are symptoms
The symptoms for the different types of gangrene differ accordingly. But first we
will collectively go through the symptoms which are commonly seen.
- Clear line of demarcation separating the gangrenous part and the healthy part of
the affected area
- Color changes of the affected parts, from pale to red or brown and finally greenish-black
- Fever
- Rapid heart rate
- Rapid breathing
- Loss of appetite
- Diarrhea / vomiting
- Altered mental state
- Vascular collapse (later stages)
Now, let us talk about the types one by one.
Dry gangrene
- coldness and numbness of the part
- extreme dryness
- reddish-brown discoloration
- finally, it is black and shriveled
- slight pain
- affected part starts shedding off
Wet gangrene (moist gangrene)
- swollen and decayed part
- swollen area is warm to touch
- local oozing out of exudates
- foul smelling odor
- blackish appearance of the part
Gas gangrene
- infected area
- bloody or brownish discharge from affected area
- production of gas with a crackling sensation when pressed
- appearance of blisters
- sensation of heaviness in the affected part
- severe pain
What are the precautions
- Risk of gangrene advances with ageing, maintain a proper diet and hygiene
- If you are diabetic, stay highly alert, as risk is more; keep a control over blood
sugar levels
- Severe injuries due to surgical processes, care needs to be taken
- Avoid radiation therapies
- Protection of the skin from extremes of temperature
- Avoid tobacco smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol
- Keep a check on color changes of the skin
