Homeopathic treatment
Before we delve into homeopathic treatment for bedsores, let us first look into
the allopathic treatment available:
- NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, naproxen
- Oral or topical antibiotics
- Mechanical debridement
- Autolytic debridement
- Enzymatic debridement
- Surgical debridement
- Amputation
NSAIDs may cause temporary relief in pain but their prolonged usage can cause ulcers,
bleeding, serious allergic reactions, renal failure, liver failure, vomiting, constipation
or diarrhoea, nausea, drowsiness and so on.
Antibiotics gradually increase the tendency to catch fungal infections and may lead
to severe and debilitating adverse effects such as shock. Common side effects include
rash, diarrhoea, stomach upset and so on.
Debridement listed above are mostly painful, cause bleeding, delayed healing, damage
to the surrounding healthy tissue and increased risk of further infections.
Many allopathic medications are contraindicated in patients with congestive heart
failure, chronic renal disease, and chronic liver diseases.
Now let us talk about scope of homeopathy in bed sores or decubitus ulcers.
Bed sores become an additional cause of distress in already ill patients. Along
with easing the distress caused by bed sores, homeopathy aims at treating the underlying
cause also.
We have homeopathic remedies which give amazing results even in the stage four cases
of bed sores where the bony area is exposed.
Remedies enhance internal healing of the skin, tissues and muscles involved in bed
sores. They slow down the process of necrosis and granulation in severe cases and
initiate safe and gradual recovery.
In my clinical experience, patients with initial stages of bed sores experience
relief in 3 to 8 weeks of homeopathic treatment.
With treatment, patient develops immunity to fight against risk of further infections
to which he / she is exposed to.
The daily sufferings such as intolerable pain, discharges, burning in the affected
area, red discolouration of skin ease with time leading to a state of physical health
along with mental happiness.
Homeopathy amazingly deals with the diabetic and old aged bed ridden patients who
are even more prone to bed sores and makes their lives worthwhile
Few remedies for bed sores are Arnica, Graphites, Pyrogen, Apis, Carbo veg. [Note:
