Is your child a mouth breather? If yes then look for enlarged adenoids
Homeopathic treatment
Before delving into homeopathic treatment let us first discuss the conventional or allopathic treatment available.
Allopathy
In a case of enlarged adenoids an allopath may consider removing the adenoids because
antibiotics and anti allergics only provide temporary relief and are not used for long-term treatment.
Surgical removal is a procedure called Adenoidectomy, carried out through the mouth
under a general anesthetic, involves the adenoids being curetted, cauterized, lasered,
or otherwise ablated.
Several years ago, operations to remove tonsils and adenoids were very common. These
operations are done less commonly now as the benefits are not thought to be as 'clear
cut' as they were once thought. Also, as with all operations, there is a risk involved
with surgery. For example, possible complications of surgery include infections
and severe bleeding from the sites where the tonsils or adenoids were removed, and
anesthetic reactions.
Also, after adenoids are removed, the speech may become nasal. In a number of cases
speech therapy is needed, or even a second operation to narrow the gap between the
soft palate and the roof of the mouth.
Other complications associated with surgery for adenoid removal are:
- Sore throat, earache and a stiff jaw.
- Blocked nose.
- Change in voice - as if talking through the nose.
- Bad breath.
You may have grown up in an era when removing the adenoids and tonsils was standard
practice and may have undergone one of these procedures yourself. But because now
we understand more clearly the role of the adenoids in fighting infection, the chances
of your child's undergoing an adenoidectomy are much more remote.
Homeopathy
Surgery is often advised, but it is not a definite solution to the problem. Fortunately
homeopathy can help. It offers a very safe and effective way to reduce enlarged adenoids
and tonsils and can save the little ones from the surgeon's knife.
Homeopathy is a type of natural medicine used to treat various symptoms. This medicine
has slowly risen in popularity over the years, making it now the second most common
form of medicine used in the world.
In a typical case of healing, a person's complete symptoms will be treated. It follows
nature's rule, so it never admits removal as a cure. It means healing as making
healthy, not removing.
So if you are going to remove the adenoids or tonsils, it is just like removing
the guards who often get attacked by infections while safeguarding us, which is
not a wise decision.
Homeopathic philosophy has always stood by the view that whenever possible the tonsils
and adenoids should be saved as they are an important defence tissues of our body
and provide the children with the much required immunity.
Why to choose homeopathy for our little ones?
- Medicines work together with the body's immune system.
- The results of remedies take place quickly if the treatment is done systematically.
- It is completely safe, risk free without any side effects.
- No form of homeopathic medicines are addictive.
- All forms of remedies are natural as they are created from plants, minerals
and animals.
- The treatment does not suppress the immune system.
- Remedies can be taken with other medications.
- The treatment is safe on all, even infants and elderly.
The duration of treatment depends on the size of the adenoids and also the duration
of the problem plus most importantly the susceptibility of the patient to the remedies. Homeopathy takes care of all the symptoms from mouth breathing to
sleeping difficulties, snoring and so on. The earlier you treat, the speedier and
more complete the cure. In this natural way of healing, the immune system is strengthened,
so that recurrences can surely be avoided. Moreover no need to worry about the complications
and after effects which are generally experienced after surgery. Stay healthy, stay
happy with homeopathy.
There are 28 homoeopathy medicines which give great relief. However, the correct
choice and the resulting relief is a matter of experience and right judgment on
the part of the physician. The treatment is decided after thorough case taking of
the patient. Thus homoeopathic remedies are designer made unlike allopathy in which
all patients receive the same surgery or drugs although trade name may be different.

Adenoids in children... What are they, anyways?

They are a mass of tissue, located in the passage that connects the back of the
nasal cavaty to the throat. Adenoids - which are also called nasopharyngeal tonsils
but are separate from the tonsils in the throat. Although tonsils are visible when
the mouth is wide open, adenoids need a small mirror and a special scope.
The main function of adenoids is to produce the defence cells and fight infections
like bacteria and viruses that one breathes in or swallows. By making antibodies,
they help the young child's body fight respiratory tract infections.
Children are born with adenoids which are quite small. They get less vital as the
child grows older and the body builds other mechanisms to fight germs. It is during
the growth phase that adenoids can potentially cause problems. Both the adenoids
and tonsils get enlarged when they get infected with bacteria. Mostly they return
back to their original size once the infection is over; however, in some cases they
tend to remain enlarged when infections are frequent or chronic.
Is it a common or uncommon condition
Swollen or enlarged adenoids are common in children. Causes include:
- Recurrent and chronic infections with viruses or bacteria.
- Allergies.
- Often there is no apparent cause.
How would we make out whether my child has enlarged adenoids
or something else?
Here below are points worth noticing through which parents can suspect enlarged
adenoids:
- The most common complicatoins are frequent sore throat, chronic ear infections,
nose bleed and hearing loss due to obstruction of the Eustachian tube and accumulation
of fluid in the middle ear.
- When adenoids are enlarged, it may be hard to breathe through the nose.
- Mouth breathers: Kids breathing through the mouth instead of the nose.
- Nose sounds 'blocked' when the child speaks giving a typical 'pinched nose'
quality to the voice.
- Noisy breathing during the day.
- Recurrent ear infections.
- Snoring at night.
- Breathing stops for a few seconds at night during snoring or loud breathing,
condition called as 'obstructive sleep apnea'. This can lead to low oxygen levels
with daytime sleepiness.
- Sleep apnea, in which the sleeping child may interrupt a normal breathing
pattern with either short periods of not breathing many times through the night,
or longer periods of not breathing - up to 20 seconds - once or twice a night.
How does one confirm that the adenoids are enlarged?
Besides the symptom history, the best way to assess the size of the adenoids is
to do a simple x-ray of the neck region because the adenoids are hidden behind the
nose and cannot be seen by direct physical examination.
This x-ray reveals two very important things:
- Whether the adenoids are enlarged and,
- To what degree they block the nasal passage.
Do enlarged adenoids cause behavior problems?
Enlarged adenoids block the nasal passage and in this way can interfere with sleep.
There is no question that children who do not get enough sleep can exhibit behavior
problems because they are tired.
Some of the questions that doctors may ask during the evaluation of a child with
possible enlarged adenoids are how is he/she doing at school? Always tired? Any
behavioral or listening problems?
It is important to understand that enlarged adenoids do not cause ADHD (Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) or other similar condition.
However, the above mentioned behavioral symptoms may mimic ADHD, or even worsen
the symptoms of an ADHD child.
